What is ESR for mold steel?
What is ESR mold steel ? Mold steel ESR is a special type of steel manufactured through the electroslag remelting (ESR) process. The ESR process is to guide pre-melted steel into the molten steel through electrodes under vacuum or inert atmosphere, forming an arc. The heat of the arc causes the molten steel to melt again, while the current of the arc melts and eliminates impurities and bubbles in the molten steel.
The advantages of mold steel manufactured by ESR process are high purity, good uniformity, fine structure, high hardness, and good wear resistance. These good properties making it suitable for manufacturing high-precision and high demand molds and tools. ESR mold steel is widely used in industries such as automobiles, aerospace, electronics, plastics, etc., and can meet the needs of complex processes and high-precision processing.
The ESR process can also improve the microstructure and grain size of mold steel. In traditional steel manufacturing processes, the steel liquid will form large grains and non-uniform structures during the cooling process, which will reduce the strength and toughness of the steel. The ESR process, through solidification in the slag, can make the cooling rate of the steel more uniform, thereby forming fine grains and improving the strength, toughness, heat resistance, and wear resistance of the mold steel.
