Ultra high strength steel with carbon free (or micro carbon) martensite as the matrix, which can produce intermetallic compound precipitation hardening during aging. Different from the traditional high-strength steel, it is strengthened by the dispersion of intermetallic compounds instead of carbon. This makes it have some unique properties: high strength and toughness, low hardening index, good formability, simple heat treatment process, almost no deformation during aging, and good welding performance. Therefore, maraging steel has been widely used in the departments that need such characteristics.
Maraging steel is one of the ultra-high strength steels. The outstanding advantage of this steel is that the heat treatment process is simple and convenient. After solid solution, it is machined first and then aged. The heat treatment deformation is small, and the processing and welding properties are good. The heat treatment process and properties of maraging steel are shown in the table below. In recent years, the mold made of maraging steel is widely used abroad; But in China, maraging steel is difficult to be widely used because of its high content and high price of Ni, Co and other precious metal elements. This kind of steel is mainly used for precision forging die and plastic die.
