Maraging is a series of martensitic aged steels with a nickel content of 18% and enhanced performance by adding cobalt. The steel grades in this series have excellent mechanical properties, processing performance, and heat treatment performance.
Maraging 300 is an ultra-high strength steel based on carbon free (or micro carbon) martensite, which can produce intermetallic compound precipitation hardening during aging. Unlike traditional high-strength steel, it does not require carbon and relies on the dispersion and precipitation of intermetallic compounds for strengthening. This gives it some unique properties: high strength and toughness, low hardening index, good formability, simple heat treatment process, almost no deformation during aging, and good welding performance. Therefore, martensitic aging steel has been widely used in sectors that require this characteristic.
We adopt a dual vacuum smelting process of vacuum induction furnace melting and vacuum consumable furnace remelting. The cold workability is very good in a solid solution state. Drawing, cold rolling, bending, deep drawing and other processing are all easy to carry out. The work hardening index of steel is 0.02-0.03, which is one order of magnitude lower than that of ordinary steel. Therefore, cold processing with a deformation of over 90% can be carried out without the need for softening annealing during the processing.
The carbon content in Maraging steel is relatively low, and the alloying elements that play a role in age hardening are Ti, Al, Co, and Mo. Impurities have a significant impact on the properties of martensitic age hardening steel, and have a more significant effect on steel with higher yield strength. This requires this type of steel to undergo vacuum smelting to reduce impurities, segregation, and gas content in the ingot, in order to ensure that the steel has good toughness and fatigue resistance.
Martensitic aging steel has been widely used in high-speed conversion of rocket engine casings, missile casings, uranium isotope centrifuges, helicopter landing gears, high-pressure vessels, shafts, gears, bearings, high-pressure sensors, fasteners, springs, as well as aluminum alloy extrusion and casting molds, precision molds, cold stamping molds and other industrial molds.
The representative steel grades of Maraging include 022Ni18Co8Mo3TiA (Maraging200), 022Ni18Co8Mo5TiA (Maraging250), 022Ni18Co9Mo5TiA (Maraging300), and 00Ni18Co13Mo4TiA (Maraging350).
