Products Description 

39NiCrMo3 is a kind of high-strength and high-toughness alloy structural steel.Widely used in machinery manufacturing and automobile industry.
Through proper heat treatment, 39NiCrMo3 steel can obtain high strength and good toughness, and has good hardenability and comprehensive mechanical properties. It can withstand large loads and impacts, and is not easy to break under complex stress conditions.
Due to the effect of alloying elements, 39NiCrMo3 steel has good hardenability. During the quenching process, even large-sized workpieces can obtain relatively uniform organization and performance from the surface to the core, ensuring the consistency of the overall performance of the parts.

Material Characteristics

  • Good fatigue resistance

Its microstructure and alloy composition give 39NiCrMo3 steel good fatigue resistance. When subjected to cyclic loads, it can effectively resist the initiation and expansion of fatigue cracks and extend the service life of parts in alternating stress environments.

  • Decent machinability

Although 39NiCrMo3 steel contains a variety of alloy elements, after appropriate pretreatment (such as annealing), its machinability can meet the requirements of general machining and can be processed into the required shape and size through common cutting processes (such as turning, milling, drilling, etc.).

 

What are the differences between 39NiCrMo3 and AISI 4340?
1. In terms of chemical composition, AISI 4340 has a relatively higher nickel content, at 1.65-2.00%; chromium 0.70-0.90%, molybdenum 0.20-0.30%.
2. In terms of mechanical properties, 39NiCrMo3 has a good combination of strength and toughness, and the tensile strength after heat treatment exceeds 1000MPa. AISI 4340 also has high strength and excellent toughness, and due to the higher nickel content, it has better toughness at low temperatures. In terms of hardness, both can achieve higher hardness after heat treatment for wear-resistant applications, but due to composition differences, the hardness distribution after heat treatment may be different.
3. Different hardenability, 39NiCrMo3 steel has good hardenability, which can enable larger-sized parts to obtain uniform structure and performance. AISI 4340 has better hardenability and can be hardened deeper than 39NiCrMo3 when processing large-section parts.
4. The application scenarios are also different. Steel 39NiCrMo3 is often used in the manufacture of gears, shafts, and crankshafts in mechanical engineering, as well as connecting rods, bolts, and transmission gears in automobile engines. AISI 4340 is mainly used in the aerospace field with extremely high requirements for safety and reliability, such as aircraft engine components, landing gear systems and structural parts, as well as high-load, high-precision machinery, such as high-end industrial equipment and special-purpose machinery.
