SUS321 vs SUS316

321 belongs to the American standard titanium containing austenitic stainless steel, executive standard: ASTM A276/A276M-17
321 stainless steel has very similar properties to 304, but due to the addition of titanium metal, it has better resistance to grain boundary corrosion and high-temperature strength. Due to the addition of titanium metal, it effectively controls the formation of chromium carbide.
The chemical composition of 321 stainless steel is shown in the following figure:

321 Stainless Steel Applications
The ideal uses of 321 stainless steel include expansion joint, aircraft parts, furnace parts, heat exchangers, mineral processing screens, all standard methods of welding, with or without filler metal.

316L belongs to American standard austenitic stainless steel, and 316L stainless steel follows the standard "ASTM A240/A240M-19"
316L stainless steel is a type of molybdenum containing stainless steel. Due to the presence of molybdenum in the steel, its overall performance is superior to 310 and 304 stainless steel. Under high temperature conditions, when the concentration of sulfuric acid is below 15% or above 85%, 316L stainless steel has a wide range of applications. 316L stainless steel also has good resistance to chloride corrosion, so it is usually used in marine environments. 316L stainless steel is commonly used in pulp and paper equipment, heat exchangers, dyeing equipment, film processing equipment, pipelines, materials for external use in coastal buildings, as well as watch chains and cases for high-end watches. Equipment used in seawater, chemical, dye, papermaking, oxalic acid, fertilizer and other production equipment; Photography, food industry, coastal facilities, ropes, CD poles, bolts, nuts.

Different uses make it difficult to compare.
321 stainless steel is basically an improved version of 304 stainless steel. The main difference between the two is that the addition of titanium increases carbon five times. Adding titanium helps to prevent carbide precipitation during welding and during high-temperature changes.
Regardless of the exciting addition of titanium, 321 still has many similar characteristics, making the 300 series stainless steel so large. The common uses of 321 stainless steel are annealing, heavy-duty vehicle exhaust systems, firewalls, stacked linings, aircraft components, and other high-temperature equipment.
