High speed steel is a kind of complex steel, and its carbon content is generally between 0.70 and 1.65%. The content of alloy elements is high, and the total amount can reach 10-25%.
High speed steel can be divided into general purpose steel and special purpose steel according to different purposes.
① Universal high-speed steel: mainly used to manufacture cutting tools (such as drill, tap, saw blade) and precision tools (such as hob, gear shaper, broach) for cutting metal materials with hardness HB ≤ 300. Common steel grades include W18Cr4V, W6Mo5Cr4V2, etc.
② High speed steel for special purposes: including cobalt high speed steel and superhard high speed steel (hardness HRC68~70), mainly used to make tools for cutting difficult to machine metals (such as superalloys, titanium alloys and high-strength steel). The commonly used steel grades are W12Cr4V5Co5, W2Mo9Cr4VCo8, etc.
The main use of general steel is its strong versatility, which is widely used to manufacture drills, reamers, taps, milling cutters, gear cutters and broaches.
High performance steel is mainly used for making hot forming tools and tools that bear impact and have weak structure.
